Stonestreet One Announces New Release Of WiCenter Software

The WiCenter software supports a variety of popular and emerging radios, such as Wi-Fi (802.11 a/b/g/n), Bluetooth, Wireless USB (WUSB) and mobile broadband. New release adds support for additional wireless radios, protocols, and operating systems.

(via Press Release from Stonestreet One – March 3, 2009) Louisville, Kentucky – Stonestreet One, Inc., a leading provider of wireless software solutions for PCs, consumer electronics, and mobile devices, today announced a new release of its patents-pending WiCenter™ wireless connection and device management software. This new release adds support for additional wireless radios, protocols, and operating systems, along with a dramatic new user interface.

“With the proliferation of mobile-ready notebooks and netbooks along with the corresponding introduction of advanced wireless features, computer and consumer electronic OEMs are looking to address the challenges that their users face in getting and staying connected,” said Alex Green, Senior Director, Communication Segment at IMS Research. “Stonestreet One has created a simple yet elegant solution with the WiCenter platform, which addresses the complexity and confusion associated with using wireless to connect devices, other computers, and the Internet in a consistent and easy-to-use manner.”

WiCenter® is Stonestreet One’s user application that provides advanced features for discovering, connecting and managing connections and wireless devices, including access points, headsets, wireless printers, cameras, even peer to peer networks using an intuitive, easy to use graphical interface. WiCenter works “behind the scenes” to manage and maintain connections, ensuring a secure, reliable and consistent “connected” experience. For example, WiCenter will handle the automatic switching of an IP connection from a hot spot to a mobile broadband service as a user moves his netbook from the coffee shop to the car.

Richard Smith, President of Stonestreet One, said “We are pleased to introduce our latest release of WiCenter. As wireless choices related to both devices and networks increase, so does the frustration factor for users, who are faced with a confusing mix of tools, widgets, control panels and interfaces to try and connect their PC or netbook. This problem is compounded by the addition of multiple radios in a single system, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and cellular, each of which today brings its own learning curve. Our new WiCenter release addresses this issue and allows users to spend time enjoying their web and media content instead of managing connections or worse, talking to a help desk.”

The WiCenter platform supports a variety of popular and emerging radios, such as Wi-Fi (802.11 a/b/g/n), Bluetooth, Wireless USB (WUSB), and mobile broadband (including Qualcomm Gobi). WiCenter works with PC’s, netbooks, and mobile internet devices running Microsoft Windows XP or Vista. Updates for WiCenter to support Windows 7 will be available this year.

Stonestreet One also is announcing WiCenter support for Linux. This version of WiCenter addresses the need to improve the highly challenging usability issues related to connectivity found today in most Linux netbook and mobile device platforms. These issues are being compounded with the addition of wireless features including mobile broadband and WiMax in these systems. Users of Linux netbooks and notebooks running the WiCenter application will enjoy the same advanced features and intuitive interface found on today’s WiCenter version for Windows.
