WiQuest continues expansion of its Wireless USB software development strength. Center of Exellence team has contributed significantly on advanced development projects for current and next generation WUSB products.
(via Press Release from WiQuest – June 30, 2008) Allen, Texas – WiQuest Communications, Inc., the worldwide leader in complete ultrawideband solutions, today announced the 1-year anniversary of the formation of their India Center of Excellence (CoE) – WiQuest Semiconductors India Private Limited – now complementing the team based in Allen, Texas for software development and interoperability for the company’s WiMedia-based Ultrawideband (UWB) and Wireless USB solutions. In addition to software development and interoperability, the WiQuest India CoE has expanded to include hardware development, manufacturing operations, product development engineering, and system test functions.
“In just 12 months, employees in our India Center have established themselves well and play an important role in the continued success of WiQuest, our customers and our industry,” said Shekar Ramamurthy, Managing Director, WiQuest India. “In a very short period of time the team has contributed significantly on advanced development projects for WiQuest’s current and next generation products.”
“Our decisions to open a Center of Excellence in India and continue to expand our engineering staff, threefold, show the commitment and focus that WiQuest places and our customers expect in the key areas of software and interoperability,” said Steve Perna, WiQuest CEO and president. “This optimization of chips, software and application-specific hardware has enabled WiQuest to get more customers into production than any other supplier.”
WiQuest very quickly recognized the value to customers in a strategy of providing complete hardware and software solutions. In addition to software firmware and drivers, WiQuest develops advanced features like the recently announced feature-rich, icon-based Control Center and support of isochronous audio which enables stereo and 5.1 Surround Sound with Wireless USB. Other advanced features will be announced later this year which will continue to deepen WiQuest’s already-significant portfolio of capabilities for both Windows XP and Windows Vista. Dell, Lenovo, Toshiba, Belkin, D-Link and others are current users of WiQuest technology.
WiQuest allocates a significant amount of software engineering resource to interoperability – ensuring that the WiQuest-based products work with other WUSB products from different manufacturers. WiQuest engineers work directly with partners and competitors early in the development process, sharing early releases of hardware and software and working together to address interoperability.
In this fast-moving industry, WiQuest is taking advantage of the availability of round-the-clock development to deliver WUSB products for our customers that meet their time-to-market demands. The end result is an extremely positive user experience for consumers.
WiQuest Complete Solutions
In addition to unparalleled software support, WiQuest has an extensive set of hardware reference designs for WUSB applications including the Wireless USB Adapter, 4-port Hub, Mini Card, Half Mini Card, Device Embedded Card, and Wireless USB + Bluetooth Combo Mini Card reference designs. WiQuest reference designs for wireless digital video include the Wireless Docking® Station and Mini Card with WiDV®. WiQuest’s complete UWB solution is also the industry’s fastest, at greater than 1 Gbps.
Wireless USB technology offers advantages that neither Bluetooth nor Wi-Fi provides. Bluetooth is most commonly used for wireless headsets, mice and peripheral devices. Wi-Fi is most commonly used in shared bandwidth local area network, wireless applications. By contrast, WUSB offers superior file transfer speeds and multimedia features such as dedicated audio and video streaming, while being over 10 times more power efficient than Wi-Fi and over 100 times higher throughput than Bluetooth.
