Staccato Communications Ripcord2 family WUSB Chipset usage models:
This video shows a demonstrations of possible applications using the new Ripcord2 WUSB modules which meets regulatory frequency requirements including the upper bandgroups required in Japan, Korea and the European Union. The Ripcord2 product family are single-chip 65nm all-CMOS ICs based upon the WiMedia and WUSB specifications.
Marty Colombatto (CEO Staccato Communications) said “We view the world in 3 main segments: office (or desktop), living room, and mobile (on-the-go). In the office setting, UWB (or Wireless USB) provides a cable-free connection to PC peripherals such as printers, mass storage, speakers, monitors, dockings stations, etc… Although this is not a revolutionary application, it certainly is an evolutionary one building upon the ease-of-use of USB, which is arguably the most successful wired connectivity solution ever to be introduced. In the living room, new usage models such as wireless audio and video streaming are enabled with UWB. UWB provides a technically superior solution as well in this application space due to its low-interference, quality-of-service capabilities, and reliable operation. And in mobile applications such as smart phones or personal media players, UWB will provide a means to quickly synch, view and listen to content as well as enable new peer-to-peer usage models bringing a whole new world of connectivity to subscribers. ”
