AL5708 recognized as the only embedded notebook solution approved for use in WiMedia UWB bandgroups BG1, BG3 and BG6
(via Press Release from Alereon – December 15, 2008) Austin, Texas – Alereon, Inc., the Certified Wireless USB technology leader for Ultra Wideband (UWB) WiMedia solutions, announced today they have received FCC modular certification for its AL5708 Worldwide Wireless USB Half-MiniCard. The AL5708, which provides WUSB connectivity for laptops and desktop PCs, is the first and only FCC approved Wireless USB embedded notebook solution for use in UWB bandgroups one, three and six.
Alereon’s AL5708, which is PCI Express (PCIe) type H2 compliant, is based on the AL5000 family chipset that covers the entire UWB spectrum from 3.1–10.6 GHz. In addition, the AL5708 is the only solution to-date that supports bi-directional, isochronous data transfers both in and out allowing manufacturers to support common consumer devices such as USB speakers and webcams.
“PC developers require worldwide solutions that allow them to connect to the
common USB devices consumers are already using,” said Eric Broockman,
Alereon’s CEO. “The AL5708 not only offers a full range of Wireless USB
capabilities that meets worldwide regulatory requirements, but our current performance of over 140Mbps throughput to a native device allows consumers
to watch video, transfer files and work wirelessly today without noticing they
do not have a USB cable.”
The AL5708 Half-MiniCard is the fifth Alereon product that has received FCC modular certification for Band Groups BG1, BG3 and BG6, further expanding the rapidly growing portfolio of Wireless USB solutions, both on the host and device side, which Alereon will bring to market in early 2009. Alereon also received PCI Express V1.1 certification from the PCI-SIG for the AL5350 Worldwide PCIe WiMedia/UWB Baseband and MAC, the base chipset used in the AL5708 Half-MiniCard.
Alereon’s AL5000 Chipset family is ideal for Certified Wireless USB, Bluetooth or WiMedia manufacturers that wish to address various world markets including the US, Europe, Japan, Korea and China, which have differing UWB requirements. The AL5000 allows manufacturers to produce a single product or SKU that can be designed and sold worldwide with a simple software modification to meet local regulatory requirements.
